harness the power of the snake

keep it moving to get unstuck

A month ago, I was feeling pretty stuck. I had “cleared the decks” to make space in my life for something new to appear, but I wasn’t sure what. This is the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac, and I thought about calling on the power of this animal– which doesn’t move straight, but gets at things by moving sideways. Actions don’t have to be so directly tied to the goal; just keep the creative energy moving.

That was the origin of my 30-day writing challenge. And I can honestly say it worked. I am less stuck now. I have not one, but two great opportunities in front of me that I didn’t have before. I’ve published almost 10,000 words on the internet. It took about 60 hours to do that, but now I have a little site that’s running! More importantly, I overcame some of the fear that kept me in hiding while I was “figuring things out.”

One of the things I learned, which I wrote about in my north node post, is that it’s hard to figure things out in your head. Change requires active experimentation and collaboration with others in the outside world. It’s putting out something, anything, that puts the authentic voice in motion. The snake doesn’t move straight towards the target, it gets there by moving sideways. And that can open up paths that weren’t expected. It took a lot of trust for me to believe that could be true, but it is. We’re on the other side now.
